02 May Counseling for Performing Artists

People who devote themselves to the performing, visual and literary arts may be especially vulnerable to a particular set of emotional and psychological issues. Artists often face societal, familial, economic and personal challenges that are unique to those who choose to make their living using their creative abilities.

I recognize and value the gifts that artists bring to our culture. I feel called to provide mental health services to the people who contribute so much of themselves to make our world a richer, more vibrant place for all of us.

If you’re an actor, dancer, filmmaker, musician, visual artist, writer or any other kind of creative person, I can help you resolve the issues that prevent you from doing your best work and achieving success. Allow me to help you:

• Increase your confidence and motivation
• Better cope with criticism and rejection
• Access and use your authentic self in your work
• Reduce audition and performance anxiety
• Generate new ideas and finish projects already begun
• Manage anxiety, depression and other mood disorders
• Make positive, healthy career choices
• Improve work/life balance
• Enhance your interpersonal relationships

I’m uniquely qualified to work with creative individuals, having spent the last three decades working as a musician, an actor, a composer/arranger and a writer. I have a thorough knowledge of the kinds of personal and professional challenges artists face.

I also understand that making a living in the arts can be challenging, which is why I offer a sliding fee scale. If you’re struggling financially, I’ll work with you to find a fee for services that works for both of us.

Please read some of my articles for PerformInk to gain a more thorough understanding of the ways in which I work with performing artists.
